to the Select Security Stadium to mark the beginning of a busy Easter period for Steve Hill’s side.
Saturday’s visit of REMYCA marks the beginning of a 5-day stretch in which Widnes play three times, with Hill’s men hosting league leaders Cammell Laird 1907 on Bank Holiday Monday before travelling to Andrew Street to face Chadderton on Wednesday night.
It has been a somewhat forgetful 2015 to date for Widnes. They are currently without a win in four and have lost eight of their last ten league games. Their last fixture was a 4-0 home defeat to AFC Darwen two weeks ago.
The visitors also come into the game in a poor run of form. REMYCA are without in a win in three with Phil Stafford’s men conceding eight goals in their past two outings. In their last fixture, REMY lost 4-0 to title contenders Atherton Collieries in the semi-final of the Reusch First Division Trophy.
Widnes came out on top in the alternate fixture earlier this season in August, with a James Thomas double ensuring that Hill’s side came from behind to pick up all three points.
Team News
Lee Hughes could be in contention for a recall after missing the defeat to AFC Darwen. Hughes has put in a series of impressive performances in recent weeks as he looks to cement his place in the squad.
Defender Matty Lennon could be handed a starting berth for the game after coming on at halftime of the 4-0 defeat to Darwen, whilst Gary Williams could return to the squad after being left out of the sixteen last time out.
Saturday could also see manager Hill reshuffle his starting eleven, with the versatility of players such as Alex Davies and Paul Carney providing a selection headache.
Final Thoughts
Widnes will be looking to finish a disappointing league season on a high by picking up as many points as possible in their last five fixtures. Manager Hill cited belief as the main factor behind his side’s recent run of form. ““We have got a have a bit of belief. We’re coming down to the period of the season where awards are getting given out and we’re not going to be there so it’s important that we don’t let our heads drop, which has been happening in recent weeks.”
Litherland will be looking for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive. REMYCA sit six points behind 6th placed Cheadle Town with five games remaining in the season.
