Widnes' double promotion winning captain Mike Burke will retire at the end of the season after seven hugely successful seasons with the Club.
Mike, 36, has worn the captain’s armband with distinction for four of those campaigns and made 196 appearances in a Widnes shirt.
He lists the North West Counties First Division, League Cup and Champions Cup amongst his honours, and promotion from the North West Counties Premier Division in 2018.
Writing in his programme notes for the win over 1874 Northwich, Burkey said: "I've loved being here.
"It hasn't been the season I hoped for in my last year, I've certainly gained more grey hairs but what a ride it's been over the past seven seasons.
"I've embraced the club, connecting with fans and the junior section and even had a spell as caretaker manager. I'll certainly miss the place but will make sure I get back to watch some games in the future.
"The club is full of brilliant people from top to bottom and it makes it more rewarding being a player representing those people who have put so much into the club, helping it become the recognised club it is today.
"To all the club officials who have supported the club, myself, players past and present, managers past and present, no matter what... thank you for everything!
"Every club is about the fans and people who want to drive the club forwards. Things can be put into place as a foundation but it needs people within the community to help build on those foundations.
"Fan numbers have increased significantly over the years and it's brilliant to see so many people now coming to games, home and away.
"You are the future of the club, keep doing what you're doing and I'm sure you will get your just rewards from the squad on the pitch and see the club be successful.
"I hope we can give you something to cheer for and there's a big celebration come 5:00pm."
On behalf of everyone at Widnes FC, we would like to thank Burkey for his immeasurable contribution to date and wish him the very best as he begins the next stage of his career.
