Manager Joey Dunn felt that his side weren't good enough as Widnes crashed out of the FA Vase following a 2-1 defeat at home to Glasshoughton Welfare.

Andrew Norbury headed Glasshoughton ahead after 11 minutes with Andy Gillespie equalising with his first Widnes goal midway through the second half.

With extra-time beckoning, it was Glasshoughton who netted a late winner in controversial fashion as a Widnes throw-in was overturned for time-wasting with Andrew McManus heading home direct from Tom Carr's long throw.

Speaking after the game, Dunn was critical of the referee's decision to overturn the late throw-in but felt that his side didn't do enough to win the game.

"Probably as you can imagine, I'm flabbergasted by the way the game's panned out," Dunn said.

"I'm quite prepared to accept the fact that my view might be a bit tainted because I'm seeing things from one side but that final decision epitomised everything about the game. I don't think we got a fair crack from the referee.

"In general, I don't think we did enough to win the game, particularly in the first half. In the second half, we had a really good go and created chances but it simply wasn't good enough, and I've told the lads that.

"The first that we conceded was an absolute shocker. We just keep giving stupid goals away and we've got experienced players in there.

"The second goal, I'm not totally sure that anyone got a touch on the throw-in and the referee can't be sure of that. I thought that Richie (Mottram) was fouled and it looked as though the ball was thrown straight in.

"The individual mistakes are hard to stomach. Glasshoughton didn't really trouble us. They've not created too many chances, they never got in behind us and Richie hasn't really had a save to make.

"From a shape point-of-view is adequate. But in those situations where you're asking people to mark but the opposition are getting free headers it's criminal."

"I fancied us to have a run in this competition, so I can't help but feel really disappointed about today's outcome.

"We have to again on Friday night at Squires Gate, but we can't help but feel hard done by as that decision has effectively won the game for them."

Manager Dunn also provided an injury update on striker Billy Webb who limped off late in the first half.

He said: "It doesn't look so good really.

"He's got a hamstring injury that's quite high up towards the top of his leg which isn't the best place to have that kind of injury.

"He's in quite a lot of pain and his movement's restricted so I don't think we'll be seeing him for a couple of weeks."
