Widnes take on Runcorn Linnets in the 12th instalment of 'El-Clasitoll' later this afternoon.
The stage is set for this particularly intriguing fixture between a free-scoring Linnets side who have surged up the table in recent weeks after a sticky start to the season, and a Widnes side who sit mid-table despite having the joint-best defensive record in the league.
The Whites have lost just one of their previous six league games and they will be buoyed by a decent home record that has yielded 13 points from a possible 21.
Michael Ellison's team were left frustrated by a 1-1 draw against City of Liverpool in midweek but ultimately settled for a point in a game were chances were few and far between.
Runcorn, meanwhile, are the division's form side.
Billy Paynter's team have won seven of their last 10 games, rising to third in the table just three points off the top.
Linnets have lost each of the last two season's play-off finals and will be eager to go one better at the third time of asking.
Widnes haven't beaten their neighbours in almost three years - a 1-0 win in December 2020 when Jack Banister scored late to secure three points away from a home in a season that was curtailed a few weeks later.
In fact, Runcorn have won five of the last eight Halton Derbies after Widnes had won each of the first three.
