All you need to know ahead of the latest Halton Derby

Widnes renew acquaintances with neighbours Runcorn Town for a pre-season friendly at the Viridor Community Stadium tonight.

The Whites remain winless and without a goal in their pre-season campaign thus far, with Steve Akrigg and Kev Towey's side having been beaten by an Isle of Man FA XI in Douglas on Saturday.

A reduced playing squad are set to make the journey over the Mersey Gateway, with Akrigg and Towey looking to up the intensity and minutes for players involved.

Widnes have no fresh injury concerns, with new signing Sam Heathcote still nursing an injury that has kept him out of all three pre-season games thus far.

Sam Sheen and George Webster are both on holiday, but Jake Phillips is available again after missing out on the squad that travelled to the Isle of Man, while trialists may also feature on the night.

Opponents Runcorn Town have been tipped as one of the pre-season favourites to win the North West Counties Premier Division this term.

Paul McManus' side already have five pre-season games under their belt, with Town kicking their competitive season off at home to Squires Gate in 10 days time.

Runcorn have strengthened ahead of an assault on promotion, re-signing Craig Cairns and Joe Holt from City of Liverpool, while securing the terms of former Bayern Munich man Dale Jennings for a second successive season.

Last time out, goals from Marcus James and Kevin Exell lifted McManus' side to a 2-1 win over Northern Counties East League side Liversedge on Saturday.
