All you need to know ahead of Widnes' trip to Kendal Town

Widnes travel to bottom club Kendal Town on Bank Holiday Monday in search of a second successive league win.

The Whites bounced back from an opening day defeat at Ramsbottom United with a comfortable win over Droylsden on Wednesday, and will head to Cumbria in a buoyant mood after recovering from two goals down to earn an Emirates FA Cup replay against Mossley last time out.

Widnes trailed 2-0 at the break before goals from Ben Hodkinson and Josh Klein-Davies ensured that the two sides would meet again for a place in the First Qualifying Round at Seel Park early next month.

Steve Akrigg and Kev Towey's side will take heart from the fact they did the double over the Mintcakes last season, who would go on to finish second-bottom and only receive a reprieve from relegation after Colwyn Bay resigned from the Northern Premier League.

Steve Edmondson's side have lost all three league outings thus far, including a 2-1 defeat at home to Clitheroe on Saturday.

Conor Gaul netted an 85th minute winner for the visitors, leaving Town deflated and continuing a run of just one home win in their previous 21 games at the Lakelands Radio Stadium.

Edmondson will be keen to ensure that his Kendal side stop the red hot Hodkinson after his return of four goals in three competitive games to begin the season - enough to lead the league's goalscoring charts.

Fellow striker Klein-Davies is in contention to start after netting twice off the bench in successive games, while defender Danny Shaw is available again after serving a suspension.

On loan Emil Jaaskelainen, son of former Bolton and West Ham goalkeeper Jussi, could feature for Kendal.
