Widnes face a stern test when they travel to newly-promoted Avro on Saturday.

The Whites returned to winning ways last time out with a narrow victory over Chasetown courtesy of a 17th minute James Steele goal.

That result lifted Michael Ellison's side to eighth in the Northern Premier League West with 12 points from their opening nine games.

Opponents Avro sit a further three points clear in fourth after a really positive start to life at Step 4, yielding just one defeat.

A win at The Vestacare Stadium could lift Widnes above Avro and into the play-off positions at this very early stage.

Opposition

Opponents Avro have lost just one of opening 13 games across all competitions.

Alex Frost's side were promoted from the North West Counties Premier Division last season and have quickly settled into life in the Northern Premier League.

Winning remains a habit for 'The Ro' and they'll be in a buoyant mood having recorded back-to-back victories over higher-level opposition in Warrington Rylands and Hyde United in their previous two games.

This is Avro's fifth straight home game on a run of six on the bounce with directly precedes five road trips in their following seven outings.
