Jordan Southworth becomes Widnes' second signing of the summer

Widnes Football Club is delighted to welcome Jordan Southworth to the club as our second summer signing!

The midfielder, 23, arrives at the Halton Stadium from local rivals Prescot Cables and follows new addition Ryan Gibson through the door ahead of the 2020-21 Northern Premier League season.

Southworth spent time with both FC Halifax Town and Farsley Celtic as youth player before moving to Irlam for a first spell in 2015, with whom he won promotion from the North West Counties Division One, featuring against Widnes in the process.

Jordan’s performances at Silver Street earned the then-teenager a move to Chorley in 2016 and he would ultimately feature for the Magpies’ Under-21s alongside loan spells with Bamber Bridge and an initial spell with Cables.

He enjoyed a second spell with Irlam last season before returning to Prescot in February only for his third spell at Volair Park to be disrupted by the curtailed campaign.

Co-manager Kev Towey said: “Jordan is very athletic, and his technical ability is unquestionable.

“Our midfield was an area that felt a bit light towards the end of last season, so it was important that we strengthened, and we’re delighted that Jordan has agreed to join us.

“He really hit the ground running in his first session with us and some of the lads spoke about how impressed they were with him which is always a good sign.”
