Widnes Football Club is delighted to announce the return of goalkeeper Owen Wheeler.
The 23-year-old shot stopper made 60 appearances for the Whites across his first two spells, winning the North West Counties Division One title as a teenager in 2017.
Wheeler departed the DCBL Stadium for a second time in December 2019 to join City of Liverpool, but has now opted to return after leaving the Purps earlier this year.
A former Liverpool Academy graduate, Wheeler trained with the First Team on multiple occasions under Brendan Rodgers before being released in 2016.
Joey Dunn initially brought Owen to the Club in the latter part of the 2016/17 season, with Wheeler earning a scholarship in the United States later that year following his exploits at the Dallas Cup for the Liverpool Football College.
Owen would rejoin Widnes in October 2018 following the Whites' promotion to the Northern Premier League.
He returns for a third spell ahead of the 2021/22 season to replacing the departing Cameron Terry, who is currently on trial at a Scottish Football League club.
"I feel like there's unfinished business here for Owen," joint-manager Kev Towey said.
"On his day, he is as good as any goalkeeper in the league and there's no reason why he can't make it at a higher level in years to come.
"He's matured since he was last here most notably in his attitude in training in recent weeks, and I'm looking forward to us getting the best out of him this season."
