Jay Roberts has this week completed a permanent switch to Bootle.
The 26-year-old finalised a switch that will see him embark on a new chapter in his career with the Bucks.
Robbo departs the Whites with winner’s medals in the North West Counties Division One, the Macron Cup and North West Counties Champions Cup, as well as securing promotion to the Northern Premier League in 2018.
Roberts joined Widnes in March 2017 from Litherland REMYCA ahead of the transfer deadline and quickly endeared himself to the home faithful as Joey Dunn’s side stormed to the NWCFL Division One title.
He would go on to be a virtual ever-present in the side at right-back for the next four-and-a-half years, playing 137 games in a Widnes shirt – tied for second-most appearances in the club’s history.
In the previous two seasons, Robbo ascended to a leadership role within the group and regularly captained the side in the absence of club captain Mike Burke.
Everybody at Widnes FC thanks Jay for his contributions over the past five seasons and wishes him the very best of luck in the future.
The Club can also announce the departures of Levi Phillips, Mikey Conlon and Ryan Gibson.
Phillips signed this summer but has now moved to Mossley while Conlon has joined Ashton Town in the North West Counties Division One North.
Gibson has completed a switch to City of Liverpool after arriving at the DCBL Stadium from Runcorn Linnets in 2020, but injury and the COVID-19 pandemic limited the forward to just six appearances in a Widnes shirt.
The Club would like to wish all three players well as they head to pastures new.
