Hill relieved to steal a point away at Eccleshall

Widnes Football Club24 Mar 2014 - 13:08

Vikings manager Steve Hill was relieved to come away with a point at Pershall Park after watching his side go 1-0 down

after a Jack Earle slip lead to Daniel King slotting the hosts in front. Hill said about the goal “Jack slipped but whether that is poor positioning or whatever only Jack can tell you that. He did slip over and they capitalised on that to score.”
With the team not in the middle of a long run of games since their last win, against Irlam in January, Hill said “No, this season has been a great learning curve for us. I would be happy if we won more games than what he have lost. We’re not doing that at the moment but we are an evolving team and we are improving. Next year I’m sure we be a lot better.” This season is a steep learning curve for the team, and Hill, the players and everyone behind the scenes can be proud of what they have achieved so far.
Three games have passed since Nelson inflicted the Vikings heaviest defeat of the season, Hill said “Nelson are a good side but we showed a lot of character because what hasn’t happened since then is the lads’ heads haven’t gone down. Sometimes you’re going to come up against a really good side and you’re going to take a thumping but it is how you bounce back that defines whether you are a good team or not. Our lads look forward to every game that they play, I am proud of them and we just take each game as it comes.” The steady improvement since has delighted the manager, although he would hope the team can continue to perform starting at Atherton Collieries on Monday, in what is a tight run of games for the club.
