Steve Akrigg has urged his players to bounce back from an opening day defeat with the visit of Droylsden tonight.
Widnes were 2-0 up and cruising at Ramsbottom United on Saturday before the dismissal of Danny Shaw right on half-time turned the game on its head, and the Rams fought back in the second half to eventually win 3-2.
Victory tonight over the Bloods would provide the perfect tonic after a heartbreaking loss to start to the campaign, and Akrigg has challenged the side to put things right as quickly as possible.
"Droylsden will be a tough game but we've got take the positives from Saturday and build on it," Akrigg said.
"Only having to wait four days to play again is a good thing for us after losing a game in that manner because we're straight back on it and don't have to stew over it for a week.
"The lads have got a chance to put it right in front of our home supporters and get three points on the board.
"I'd like to think that we can beat Droylsden based on what I saw at Rammy and produce another good performance.
"At a minimum, I'll be asking the lads to match the performance levels produced in the first half on Saturday."
