Co-boss looks ahead to Widnes' trip to Colne

Steve Akrigg knows that a positive result at Colne on Saturday is significant if Widnes want to reach their targets this season.

Widnes head to Holt House after picking up four points from their opening five BetVictor Northern Premier League Division One North/West games, three points behind Colne with a game in-hand.

Steve Cunningham's Reds were amongst the pre-season tips for promotion, and Akrigg insists that three points would stand Widnes in good stead if the Whites are to reach the play-offs or beyond this season.

"It has been frustrating not to have played in midweek to be honest," Akrigg said.

"Obviously the Ossett game being postponed didn't allow us to get Saturday's loss in the FA Cup out of our system and dust ourselves down.

"We know that Colne a very good side. They've strengthened over the summer and they're a side we expect to challenge come the end of the season.

"But if we want to challenge or get ourselves in the play-offs, we have to prove that we can go to places like Colne, produce a good performance and most importantly, get a result."
