Biography

Steve joined Widnes in November 2016 from Skelmersdale United where he quickly formed a defensive partnership with Mike Burke that would prove integral in Widnes' Hallmark Security League First Division title-winning campaign.

'Ackers' began his career at Warrington Town before spending five years at Skelmersdale United under Tommy Lawson.

He moved to Southport in 2011, making 43 appearances in his first season with the Sandgrounders. He was a major contributor as Liam Watson's side finished 7th in the Conference National, Port's best league finish for 10 years.

He made over 60 appearances for Southport before reuniting with Watson at AFC Telford United in 2014 where he was quickly made captain.

However, after just 18 appearances for the Bucks, Steve suffered a serious knee injury that effectively ended his spell in Shropshire.

Steve returned to Skelmersdale in the summer of 2016 where he was handed a player/coach role as he reunited with manager Lawson.

Steve is a ball-playing central defender with superb passing ability. His technical and ball-playing ability allows him to function as a secondary playmaker in the side.
