Cefn Druids midfielder completes switch to Select Security Stadium

Widnes FC have completed the signing of 31-year-old midfielder Stuart Cook from Welsh Premier League side Cefn Druids.

Manchester-born Cook has spent the last 18 months with Cefn after signing in the summer of 2016. He is a product of the Altrincham youth set-up, listing Stockport County and Sheffield United amongst his former clubs early in his career.

Cook has also played for New Mills, joining Bangor City in January 2009 before moving to Connah's Quay later that year.

A cultured midfielder, Cook has since played for Curzon Ashton, Salford City and Northwich Victoria before joining Cefn. Stuart was part of the Northwich side that reached the second round of the FA Cup in 2015.

Cook has also represented the England national futsal team, picking up 65 caps. He has also captained Manchester Futsal Club domestically.

Joint manager Kev Towey said: "Stu is someone we have pursued since the beginning of the season. He played against us for Cefn in pre-season and he was the best player on the pitch that day.

"He's heavily involved with the England futsal side which is obviously different but he has some of the best touches and skills I've ever seen. He can hurt teams for us.

"We are confident that his pedigree and experience will be vital to the squad in helping us finish the season strongly."

'Cookie' is available for selection for Friday's Halton Derby against Runcorn Town at the Select Security Stadium, kick-off 7.45pm.
