Co-boss credits side for back-to-back wins over Easter

Kev Towey believes Widnes' double-delight over Easter as 'inspiring' after guiding his side to victories over Colne and Runcorn Linnets respectively.

Both Colne and Linnets were in the play-off places at the start of the weekend but the Whites took maximum points from both fixtures.

"It's been there," co-boss Towey said. "It's been there for a couple of weeks now. We've shook things up over the course of this season.

"Since we've gone back to the stadium in February we've seemingly played nothing but top sides. We've got close and got close and just haven't been good enough in games.

"But you could see the way the lads were training and playing themselves that there was something good that was going to come of it.

"I think that was just the fruits of what's been put in over the past few weeks by the lads themselves. I've got to give them full credit."

Towey and Steve Akrigg's men have now secured a 12th placed finish in their maiden Evo-Stik West campaign with the player-boss pleased with their positive end to the season.

The Whites face second-bottom Kendal Town this weekend as they look to record a third consecutive victory on the final day.

"They've not downed tools and given everything they've got," Towey said of his side.

"It certainly shows the boys that we've got in there that they do care and they've got self-pride. To get those two wins is really inspiring.

"We weren't going to roll over for any side.

"We didn't want to spoil any parties, that was never our agenda, our agenda was to have this football club finishing as high as we could.

"It'll certainly give us a really good springboard going into the summer."

"If we can retain a large part of the squad it'll really give us the springboard to kick on next year."
