A look ahead to Widnes' Bank Holiday Monday fixture at Winsford United

Widnes FC will be looking to kick-start their Hallmark Security League Premier Division campaign as Joey Dunn's side travel to Winsford United on Bank Holiday Monday.

It has been an inconsistent start to the season for Widnes, who have picked up four points from their opening three league games. An opening day defeat at West Didsbury & Chorlton was quickly followed up by a comfortably victory at Abbey Hey before Saturday's draw at home to Ashton Athletic.

First half goals from Kev Pollard and Jay Roberts put Widnes in a commanding lead at home to Ashton last time out, before a late brace from Dale Korie-Butler rescued a point for the visitors.

Dunn's side come into Monday's game sitting three points and four places behind their opponents, who currently sit eighth after four games.

Lee Duckworth's Winsford have made a positive start to the season, bouncing back from FA Cup defeat to record victories against Barnoldswick Town and Northwich Victoria either side of a valuable point away at Hanley Town.

However, Winsford's early season optimism took a blow on Friday night as Duckworth's men crashed to a 5-0 defeat away at Runcorn Linnets. The Blues will be eager to bounce back from Friday's disappointment to continue their rather impressive start to their Premier Division campaign.

We've Met Before

Widnes and Winsford United played out their first and so far only meeting on a bitterly cold November evening at St Luke's Barton Stadium in the Macron Cup.

It was Widnes who progressed to the quarter-finals of last season's competition, edging the 10-men of Winsford 2-1 after extra time. Kev Towey's 62nd minute opener was quickly cancelled out by Jordan Johnson, before player/manager Duckworth was sent off late on.

When it looked like the game was heading to penalties, Towey converted a spot-kick of his own to secure victory for Widnes.

One to Watch

Full-back Damien Skolorzynski has been an ever-present at Winsford since joining the club in July.

He has found the net in two of his side's last three games, netting a second minute opener away at Hanley before completing the scoring in the 4-0 victory away at Northwich.

Team News

Duo Alex Davies and Mike Burke are doubts for the trip to Winsford. Davies limped off during Saturday's draw against Ashton whilst Burke failed a fitness test before the same game after picking up an injury in the win at Abbey Hey.

Steve Akrigg is a confirmed absentee whilst Jack Graham edges closer to a return from an injury picked up during pre-season.

Jordan Johnson is banned for Winsford following his sending off at Hanley, whilst forward Michael Koral missed Friday's game at Linnets with a muscle strain.
