A look ahead to Widnes' meeting with Kidsgrove Athletic

Widnes return to Evo-Stik League Division One West action on Monday night, hosting Kidsgrove Athletic at Townfield.

Steve Akrigg and Kev Towey’s men have endured a difficult start to life at Step 4, winning just one of their opening four league games at home to Market Drayton Town two weeks ago.

The Whites have albeit been beaten by three of the top five sides in the division in Radcliffe, Mossley and Colne.

Widnes’ home form under Akrigg and Towey has been crucial in the club’s recent rise to the Evo-Stik League. The Whites’ opening day loss at home to Radcliffe is their only defeat in front of their own fans since November 2017 - a run of 19 league matches.

Opponents Kidsgrove will be buoyed by their FA Cup win over Atherton Collieries on Saturday to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

Ryan Austin’s side sit sixth in the Division One West, with eight points from their opening four games.

Monday marks the first-ever meeting between the two sides.

Team News

Widnes are without the suspended Sam Sheen who serves the second game of a three-game ban after being sent off in the loss at Mossley last month.

Sean Myler and Jay Roberts remain out while Jack Graham is pushing to return from lingering injury problems.
