All you need to know ahead of Widnes' Liverpool Senior Cup quarter-final tie at home to Everton

Widnes will look to book their place in the last-four of the Liverpool Senior Cup on Tuesday night, taking on Everton at the Halton Stadium.

Steve Akrigg and Kev Towey's men have beaten City of Liverpool to reach this stage of the competition, while Everton received a first-round bye.

Towey netted the winner against the Hallmark Security League Premier Division leaders back in December, and the Whites will be looking to progress to the last-four for the second successive season.

Opponents Everton have won this competition a record 46 times, and the Blues will field an U18s side for the fixture led by former Blackpool midfielder Keith Southern.

The Toffees head into the game having booked their spot in the last eight of the FA Youth Cup with a 2-0 win over Brighton & Hove Albion last week.

Co-bosses Akrigg and Towey will be eager for a response from the Whites who have lost their previous three league games including a 3-1 defeat at Chasetown on Saturday.

Team News

Widnes will be without midfielder Danny Ventre (elbow) and defensive duo Phil Mooney and Joe Herbert (cup-tied), but otherwise have a full squad to choose from.

Jack Graham and Phil Doran (both knee) have both been ruled out for the rest of the season, but Widnes will be boosted by the return of captain Mike Burke who is available again.

On-loan duo Jamal Crawford and Niall Watson are both eligible for selection.

Last five results in all competitions (from the left):

Widnes: L L L W D
Everton: W L W L L

Previous Meetings

The two sides met at this stage of the competition back in November 2015, in which a David Unsworth-led Everton side ran out 8-0 winners.

The Blues fielded a side featuring Jonjoe Kenny, Tom Davies and Kieran Dowell, and would ultimately go on to win the competition later that season.
