All you need to know ahead of Widnes' trip to Mossley

Widnes travel to Mossley tonight in search of the first points of their debut season in the Evo-Stik League Division One West.

Steve Akrigg and Kev Towey's men will be eager to respond after a disappointing home loss to Radcliffe on the opening day, with Widnes beaten 2-0 by Jon Macken's visitors.

Widnes are now without a win in their opening three competitive games, having been dumped out of the Emirates FA Cup at Northwich Victoria last week.

Opponents Mossley began the season with a 3-1 win at Chasetown, despite trailing with 30 minutes to go.

The Lilywhites equalised through a Max Leonard penalty, before two goals in the last three minutes from Andy Keogh and Liam Ellis sealed victory for Dave Wild and Terry Hincks' men.

Wild and Hincks will be names familiar to Widnes supporters. Hincks spent four years in charge at Cheadle Town, while Wild spent 12 months at Stockport Town, becoming one of only three sides to take points off Widnes at the Halton Stadium under Joey Dunn.

Although Tuesday night marks the first-ever meeting between the two sides, Widnes have played at Seel Park before, losing 1-0 against Oldham Boro under Steve Hill in October 2014.

Steve Akrigg said...

"We've got to do a lot more. It's up to myself and Kev (Towey) to find a solution. If we have to change personnel, then so be it.

"Mossley is never an easy place to go to. I've played there many times on a Tuesday night and it's a difficult place to go and get something."

Team News

Jay Roberts (knee) is awaiting a scan to reveal the full extent of the damage suffered in the FA Cup draw at home to Northwich, with the right-back facing at least three weeks on the sidelines as a result.

Elsewhere, Widnes have no new injury concerns with defender Michael Grogan available despite being sent off in the defeat to Radcliffe.

Duo Tom Croughan and Elliott Jones have joined North West Counties League First Division side Rylands on dual registration deals.

One to Watch

Max Leonard joined Mossley in the summer from AFC Telford United. The goalscoring midfielder won promotion from the Evo-Stik Division One North with Hyde United last season, having spent the second-half of the season on loan with the Tigers.

Leonard finished as Glossop North End's top goalscorer with 23 goals during the 2016/17 season.
