All you need to know ahead of Widnes' trip to Leek Town tonight

Widnes will go in search of a third consecutive Evo-Stik League Division One West victory tonight away at Leek Town.

Steve Akrigg and Kev Towey's men have won their last two league outings, and will be buoyed by Saturday's 4-2 win at Colwyn Bay in which co-boss Towey scored twice.

Saturday's victory in North Wales lifted the Whites to 11th in the table, one point behind tonight's opponents having played two games more.

Leek come into the game off the back of a 3-0 defeat at National League North side Chorley in the Emirates FA Cup on Saturday.

Neil Baker's men have won three of their five league games thus far this season, including a 4-0 win over Ramsbottom United in their last league fixture 10 days ago.

Team News

Widnes could be without up to eight first team players for the trip to Staffordshire.

Jay Roberts, Danny Ventre and Michael Grogan are all banned, while Dale Korie-Butler, Phil Doran, Ben Cartwright and Bram Johnstone are all unavailable.

Ben Hodkinson is still nursing a hand injury, but Widnes could be boosted by the return of George Lomax from a chest infection, while Peter Doran may feature.

Leek are without Tim Grice, Dan Trickett-Smith and Kyle Blake, who are still nursing injuries, but Ben Chapman and Zeph Thomas should return having missed the FA Cup game due to family commitments.

The Form Guide (Last six matches L-R)

Leek Town: L W W D W D
Widnes: W L W L L W

Kevin Towey said...

"Leek is another really tough place to go. They're a strong, good-footballing side that are well-versed at this level so I do expect a tough game.

"If we can go there and get anything, I think it'll be a good result but it's important no to lose to establish a run of league games where we chip away at points and build a bit of form."
