Michael Grogan signs permanently from Marine while Tony Donaldson and Sam Henry depart

Widnes FC are delighted to announce the permanent signing of Michael Grogan from Marine.

The 27-year-old midfielder originally joined on a dual registration deal from the Mariners in November, but Grogan has now signed on permanent terms following his release from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League side.

Grogan is a former Manchester United trainee, enjoying spells at Skelmersdale United, Warrington Town and Burscough early in his career.

He was then signed by AFC Telford United from Cammell Laird in 2013, going on to score 15 goals as Telford won the Conference North that season under Liam Watson.

Grogan had two further spells at Warrington and Skelmersdale before signing for Marine in January 2017.

He has made four appearances for Widnes this season.

Joint boss Kev Towey said: "Michael was on a dual registration deal with us for a couple of games as he was still involved with his parent club at the time.

"The opportunity to bring him in permanently was one we couldn't pass up.

"Like Stuart Cook, his experience at a higher level such as the Conference National is a huge addition for a club like us."

Elsewhere, Widnes FC can now confirm the departure of Tony Donaldson who has gone in the opposite direction and signed for Marine, while striker Sam Henry is expected to complete a move to Runcorn Town in the coming days.

Towey added: "The attitude of both Sam and Tony has been exemplary.

"Even during periods of sustained absence due to the side winning games, their outlook was as good as you can expect.

"We wish them the best of luck at their new clubs."
