Lomax scored 26 goals in 38 appearances last season as Widnes won the Hallmark Security League First Division

Widnes FC are delighted to announce the signing of striker George Lomax from Marine.

The 21-year-old has agreed a return to the Select Security Stadium for a second spell, having initially joined the club from St Helens Town in September 2016 alongside his brother Chris.

He scored 26 goals in 38 appearances for Widnes last season, helping his side win the Hallmark Security League First Division in the process as he established a fruitful partnership with now joint manager Kev Towey.

Perhaps the most important of those goals came during the penultimate weekend of the season as George netted twice in a 2-1 victory over title rivals Charnock Richard that lifted Widnes towards the First Division crown with two games to play.

Lomax left the club in September 2017, departing for a brief spell at AFC Liverpool where he scored twice in three games before a swift move to Marine followed, scoring four goals in 12 appearances.

Joint boss Towey believes that the addition of Lomax will be key for Widnes moving forward.

He said: "George is familiar to the club as he was a big part of a promotion-winning campaign last season.

"He has come back as an even better player to the one that left us a few months ago after playing two divisions higher for Marine.

"He certainly didn't look out of place but he feels like he should be playing more and we're delighted that we can offer him that here."

George is in contention for selection for Friday's Halton Derby against Runcorn Town at the Select Security Stadium (kick-off 7.45pm). Come down and show your support!
