Forward pair become Widnes' first additions of the summer

Widnes Football Club are delighted to announce the signings of forward pair Josh Klein-Davies and Lewis Buckley (pictured).

The two new faces have committed to the club for the upcoming Evo-Stik League season, becoming co-managers Steve Akrigg and Kev Towey’s first new recruits of the summer.

Striker Klein-Davies, 29, arrives from Prescot Cables as a well-travelled striker who has played for both Bristol Rovers and Luton Town in the Football League, scoring his first senior goal for Rovers in a League One fixture against Huddersfield Town in 2008.

He has since had a number of spells at a number of non-league clubs in the south of the country and at Rhyl, before moving to Cables where he made of 50 appearances in a near two-year stint, scoring 27 goals.

Speaking about the striker, joint-manager Towey said: "Everytime I've seen Josh play I have been very impressed. He's got so much to his game.

"He's inventive, scores goals, he brings others into play and he's good in the air.

"He's already working hard to ensure he starts pre-season with us in top condition."

Forward Buckley returns to the English football after spending a number of seasons in Wales, appearing in the Welsh Premier League for Cefn Druids and Llandudno.

The 27-year-old began his career as a trainee at Liverpool before turning out for Runcorn Linnets and Mold Alexandra. He moves to Widnes fresh off playing a crucial role in Airbus UK’s title-winning season in the Cymru Alliance last season.

Co-boss Towey revealed that Widnes beat off competition from a number of clubs to secure Buckley's signature.

He said: "Lewis is a player we've been after since we took over. It's been a further 18 months of keeping tabs on him.

"We have fought off several other clubs in higher leagues to sign him. He's a very clever, unselfish player who is a proven goalscorer wherever he's been.

"We created a lot of chances towards the back end of last year but our conversion rate was poor, but I have no doubt that this will improve with Josh and Lewis in the side."
