Widnes were dumped out of the Emirates FA Cup after a 4-1 first qualifying round replay defeat at Emley.
It was a chastening evening in Yorkshire for the Whites who were well beaten on the night by the lower-ranked opponents.
Michael Ellison's side fell behind after half an hour when captain Steven Irwin inadvertently scored an own goal while Ruben Jerome made it 2-0 three minutes later.
Widnes gave themselves a lifeline just before the break when James Steele turned home from a Matt Van Wyk cross in first half stoppage time.
But the Whites suffered a blow when goalkeeper Cameron Terry was withdrawn at half time with an injury meaning 18-year-old Alfie Mather was drafted in for his senior debut off the bench.
Manager Ellison reverted to a back-three to offer further protection to his young goalkeeper as Louis Isherwood was also introduced in place of Eddie Servuts.
But Emley made their place in the second qualifying round safe with goals from James Walshaw and the impressive Donae Lawrence after the hour mark.
The contest was seemingly a step too far for a Widnes team playing their 10th game of the season in just 30 days, with this being just their second defeat.
