Vikings FC miss out on opportunity to go top of NWCFL Div 1 on Monday night

A win would have put the black and whites top of the league however a draw was another point gained on reflection of the game.

Widnes Vikings FC started the game the brighter side, constantly creating chances and opening up the Oldham Boro defence time after time. Poor finishing meant only a 1-0 score line, courtesy of a Luke Forsyth goal, with the match closing into half time. It was the home side which finished the first half on top by scoring a goal against the run of play, a quick throw-in left the Vikings FC wide open after a great through ball and the home striker finished off the move to stun the black and whites who looked extremely comfortable heading into half time.

The second half started how the first half finished, Vikings FC creating the initial chances however it was the home side which took the lead not long into the second half. A dangerous corner was not cleared and the ball fell straight to an unmarked player at the back post to give the home side the lead for the first time.

After a nervy few minutes it wasn’t long before Vikings FC took control of the game once more, dominating possession and creating numerous chances to equalise. It was left to Alex Davies who calmly slotted the ball home after Luke Forsyth had hit the post with his effort.

On a frustrating night for the Vikings FC manager Ste Hill who felt it was two points dropped, on reflection it could have been much worse. It is another point on the board in the clubs first ever season within the NWCFL so we can’t be too downhearted.

Next up is a Home game on Saturday 7th September at the Select Security Stadium, Widnes on what will be the latest edition of Non-League Day. The club has lots of promotions for discounted tickets, all season ticket holders at Liverpool, Everton & Widnes Vikings RL can come and watch Vikings FC for just £3 this coming weekend.

With no professional football being played due to the England match on Friday night it is a great opportunity to come and support your local team and help the club set another record home attendance this season.
