Vikings FC travelled to Hanley Town on Saturday in a top 6 tie which saw two of the three new teams play against each other for the first time in this seasons NWCFL Division 1.

A great start was made by the Vikings FC team as they soon took the lead through a great Ronnie McCarthy strike after on 6 minutes on the clock, it was all Widnes Vikings FC as the black and whites continuously created a number of chances which could easily have finished the game within the first 15 minutes.

Hanley Town struck back against the run of play shortly after the period of sustained pressure to level at 1-1. After this equaliser it was a very tough game for both sides as home side went looking for the lead, Vikings FC continued to break through the Hanley defence however great opportunities for both teams passed and a level score line of 1-1 at the break was probably fair on reflection.

The second half continued as the first half finished, a midfield battle as both sides looked to take hold of the match. After a 20 minute stop-start spell of the game it suddenly broke into life again with 3 goals scored within 5 minutes. Hanley took the lead on 73mins and two minutes after the restart they extended the lead to 3-1 with another great strike past the Vikings FC goalkeeper. The scoring didn’t finish there as Ronnie McCarthy scored his and Vikings FC second goal of the game on 77mins to make the score line 3-2 in favour of the home team.

Vikings FC continued to press for the equaliser to get at least a point from the match, creating some glorious opportunities to equalise this time it wasn’t to be as Hanley’s defence held firm to take all 3 points with a 3-2 win.

Next up for Widnes Vikings FC is Home game against Atherton Colls on Saturday 28th September with a 3pm Kick Off at the Select Security Stadium, Adults £5, Concessions £3 and Under 16s FREE with a paying adult. Come down and support Vikings FC this weekend.
