Widnes Vikings FC lose unbeaten run in a close contest against Irlam FC in the NWCFL Div 1 fixture.
Vikings FC manager Ste Hill gives his thoughts on the game below:
Over the last four games, we have managed to pick up nine points. This can only be good moving forwards as we are still finding our feet at this level. What I am pleased about is the attitude shown by the players and their desire to play at this level with enthusiasm, we are looking forward to every game.
The midweek games bring different issues with regards to player availability with injuries and work commitments; this only enhances the importance of a squad which represents depth. Although the result against Irlam was disappointing, there are positives to take from the game and we will learn as a team and move on to the next game.
I don’t think we will find out the strength of the league until January, if we can keep in touch as we are now, then this can only be good. If we win a few games, it is important not to get carried away, our level of performance has always got to be high.
If we lose, it is important not to panic, we all know that there are no easy games at this level and we can’t afford to switch off.
