Danny Meadowcroft and Brian Pritchard's inaugural league fixture as Joint Managers of Widnes FC comes against Hallmark Security League newcomers Prestwich Heys at Adie Moran Park on Saturday, as the NWCFL First Division commences for the forthcoming campaign.

Widnes travel to the Manchester League Premier Division Champions for the opening game of the season, in what will be their fourth consecutive season at this level.

Heys will pose a stern test for Widnes' first encounter following their successful application to join the newly renamed Hallmark Security League. The fixture at Adie Moran Park is the hosts' first North West Counties Football League fixture for 30 years, after the club departed the league following 1985/86 season.

Meadowcroft and Pritchard have virtually a full squad available to choose from, with a number of players set to be handed competitive debuts following their arrival in the summer.

Defender Tom Mitchell is set to make his 100th appearance for the club in Saturday's fixture, provided he sees the field.

Pre-Match Talk

Joint Manager Danny Meadowcroft is expecting a difficult challenge when Widnes take to the turf on Saturday afternoon, against somewhat of an unknown commodity in newly promoted Prestwich.

He said: We don't know much about them. What we do know is that Prestwich won their league last season, and have been gearing up to join this league for a while now.

"They'll come into the league and expect to do well, and I expect them to do well. And I think that within their camp, they'll have ambitions of reaching the playoffs.

"They're in a good catchment area, between Bury, Salford and Manchester, so there is a likelihood that they've attracted some very good players, so it'll be a very strong test for us.

"It's the unknown, but you can look at that in two different ways. You can either worry about them, or you can let them worry about you.

"It's the first game in this league for 30 years, and we'll go there, set our stall out and try and win the game.

"We want to win games of football, as well as other teams do, but if we win more individual battles, we'll come out on top. I have no qualms about that."
