After four weeks of inactivity, Widnes FC return to action this Saturday as they welcome Chadderton to the Select Security Stadium in the North West Counties First Division.

Following the 3-1 defeat against Hanley Town on 9th January, Widnes have had two scheduled away games at Litherland REMYCA and Eccleshall postponed after both games fell victim to adverse weather conditions. However, this Saturday’s game against Chadderton is in no danger of postponement barring unforeseen weather of biblical proportions, due to the Select Security Stadium’s 4G playing surface.

Chadderton have also struggled in recent weeks to get games on. The visitors have played just three games since the turn of the year and six games in total since the end of October. January was a month to forget for Steve Patterson’s side, as Chadderton were beaten in all three of their contests without scoring a goal as they were beaten 2-0 by Northwich Manchester Villa and Stockport Town either side of a 5-0 thrashing by Rochdale Town.

Widnes have already faced Chadderton this season, losing narrowly at Andrew Street back in October. Goals from Dillan O’Connor and James Curley inside the opening 15 minutes set Chadderton on their way before Steve Hill’s produced a terrific 20 minute display as Ronnie McCarthy, Danny Lomax and Luke Edwards netted to ensure that Widnes lead 3-2 at the break.

However, second half goals from Curley and Gareth Morris ensured that Chadderton picked up all three points after McCarthy was sent off late on for Widnes.

Widnes are without suspended duo Alex Davies and Ronnie McCarthy for the visit of Chadderton. Davies will serve a one-match ban for receiving a red card in the defeat at home to Hanley Town whilst McCarthy begins a 4-match ban for receiving his second straight red card of the season for violent conduct in the same game.

However, Paul Carney and no.2 goalkeeper Grant Hartley are both available for selection for Widnes after a stint of unavailability whilst Jordan Wright could be handed a debut after being an unused substitute in the defeat at home to Hanley.

Meanwhile, two recent signings could make their first appearances in a Widnes shirt. Striker Tunde Owolabi has joined the club from New Mills whilst defender Corey Mason has also joined the club after leaving 1874 Northwich last month. Both players should be available for selection.
