Leek Town will spend Christmas Day four points clear at the top of the division after a narrow victory at Widnes.
Louis Keenan’s goal after nine minutes was enough to secure victory for the visitors who enjoyed a largely comfortable afternoon in Cheshire.
Widnes were restricted to half chances and while always in the game, they were held at arm’s length for the most part.
Sean Miller did rattle the woodwork for the Whites late in the first half, but that was as close as Michael Ellison’s team would come.
Substitute James Steele whistled a shot just over on the hour for Widnes, while Rob Stevenson almost made it 2-0 for Leek but he could only prod wide with Cameron Terry beaten.
