Widnes played out a 3-3 draw at Ashton Town in their first pre-season friendly.
The Whites took the lead after just six minutes when Sean Miller converted a penalty and it was 2-0 just before half-time when a trialist found the far corner with a curling finish.
Ashton halved the deficit inside first half stoppage time with Emini Adegbenro firing beyond Cameron Terry after Widnes had lost possession cheaply.
Manager Michael Ellison fielded two different XIs in each half but lost both Kai Shorrock and Louis Isherwood to injuries, with the latter losing a tooth in an aerial collision.
Widnes restored their two-goal advantage midway through the second half when a trialist turned home from close-range.
But Ashton responded quickly through their No.11 and he added a second goal late on to hold Widnes to a draw.
