Marshals FC 0-6 Widnes FC

Widnes travelled to Liverpool to play West Cheshire League side Marshals FC in their first pre-season friendly of the new season. With big changes behind the scenes over the summer months, the team on the field looked confident, showing class and precision to upstage a team two tiers lower than them.
Lee Hughes kicked the rout off after a superb pass from Joel Douglas one of the away side’s new signings on display today. He soon got on the score sheet after he managed to scamper away from the Marshals defenders to fire his shot past the hapless Marshals keeper.
Widnes’ dominant display continued in the second half as goals by James Thomas doubled their lead. Thomas produced a moment of brilliance to dribble the ball through the defence before executing an audacious chip over the on rushing keeper. Thomas continued his fine display since coming on at half time. The winger dazzled the defence with his footwork before firing the ball home.
Another of manager Steve Hill’s half time substitutes, Danny Burns set the game alight when he found space down the wing to set up Joel Douglas before netting himself to complete the scoring. It was a good performance for Hill’s team in their first pre-season friendly on the season. There will be tougher tests to come in the coming months.

Team: Danny Lomax, Paul Carney, Gary Williams, Matty Lennon, James Ludgate, Michael Boyle, Fraser Ablett, Lee Hughes, Joel Douglas, Bradley Williams, Ronnie McCarthy, Tom Mitchell, James Thomas, Danny Burns.
