All you need to know heading into Widnes' FA Vase tie with Chadderton

Widnes FC will be looking to advance into the First Round Proper of the FA Vase for the first time in the Club’s history as Chadderton visit the Select Security Stadium in the Second Qualifying Round on Saturday.

New Widnes manager Joey Dunn will be taking the reins for the first time following his appointment on Friday, and will be looking to begin his tenure with a win.

Both teams picked up impressive victories in the First Qualifying Round to reach this stage. Goals from Jason McShane and Kev Towey ensured that Widnes picked up a hard-fought 2-0 win at Maltby Main whilst Chadderton ran out 5-3 winners at St Helens Town, recovering from an early 2-0 deficit.

The two sides come into the game in similar form. Widnes have picked up 10 points from their last six games and will be hoping to move on quickly from Wednesday’s 6-5 defeat at Litherland REMYCA.

Chadderton have picked up 11 points from their previous six games, and will be buoyed by their recent goalscoring exploits, having scored 11 goals in their last three. Last time out, Mark Howard’s side were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Cheadle Town.

The two sides have already met this season at the Select Security Stadium, with Chadderton running out 2-1 winners in August. Kev Pollard put Widnes ahead before Matthew Crothers and James Curley secured the points for the visitors.

Head to Head

Chadderton hold the upper hand over Widnes in the head to head records, having never lost to their counterparts in seven meetings. Three of those previous seven fixtures have been won by Chadderton, with the side sharing the spoils on four occasions.

Last season, Chadderton completed the league double over Widnes.
