Manager Dunn was critical of the referee following Widnes' 2-2 draw with Litherland REMYCA

Joey Dunn made no attempts to hide his frustrations - mainly with referee Michael Herzog - as 10-man Widnes were forced to settle for a point at home to league leaders Litherland REMYCA.

The visitors twice pegged Widnes back to earn a point, with George Lomax's brace being cancelled out by a Colin Quirk double, who equalised with just two minutes remaining at the Select Security Stadium.

Widnes were reduced to 10-men on the hour as skipper Kev Pollard was sent off for a fairly innocuous challenge, which drew the ire of the manager.

Speaking after the game, Dunn admitted that he was disappointed that his side couldn't hold on for three points.

"I'm obviously disappointed with the outcome," Dunn said.

"We started OK, got ourselves a goal but switched off and they equalised.

"I felt that we controlled the last 15 minutes of the first half, and the first 15 minutes of the second half, and were rewarded with a good goal.

"We were in control, bossing the game but the red card changed things.

"The referee made the wrong decision and as a consequence, we were under the cosh towards the end, which you would expect.

"I thought that we managed the game well. Owen (Wheeler) has only had a couple of saves to make, we've hit the bar twice and missed good chances so I'm disappointed that we didn't win the game."

Despite his disappointment at the final outcome, Dunn's main annoyance was with the officials, who he felt cost Widnes the game.

"My main annoyance was with the officials. I'd like to be able to sugarcoat it, but I can't," Dunn said.

"Their No.9 caught River (Humphreys) with an elbow early, which the referee decided wasn't a foul and every single foul from then seemed to go against us.

"At 2-1, I didn't really feel threatened by them. I don't think they got out of their half and it looked like we were going to win it comfortably.

"The sending off wasn't the best tackle but there was no contact. Kev has jumped but he was way short of the lad.

"In the whole scheme of things, I felt that they were throwing challenges in and weren't getting punished, but the referee couldn't wait to get cards out for our lads.

"We were managing the game comfortably, which is a positive considering that we had our backs up against the wall."

Saturday's result means that Widnes remain 7th in the First Division table, three points behind sixth placed Charnock Richard.

Dunn insists that there is still a long way to go in the race for promotion, and is eager for his side to bounce back as they face a tough trip to Holker Old Boys next time out.

"Its only February. There's still a long way to go and we'll take it one game at a time," Dunn said.

"We'll concentrate on what we can do. We'll analyse and dissect today's result and prepare right for next week.

"I was impressed with Holker when we played them here in November. They were a good technical side and a draw was probably a fair result on the day.

"Although, I think that we're a different animal now. We've strengthened since then and hopefully, we'll have enough about ourselves to go there and get a positive result."
